"AAAALLLLVVVVIIIINNNN!!!!!!" - David Seville "OK!!" - Alvin What can one say of such an effort. Three talking chipmunks—chipmunks who by the way sing hit songs, dress in miniature jerseys, discover mischief and annoy their human guardian, understandably were hits when they were created in 1958. Today however, our children, despite their youthfulness, must certainly acknowledge this effort with annoying grunts. The cute adorable chipmunks belong in a short-lived animation, not a full length feature that prolongs their charming charisma to fantasies of retrieving your shotgun.
Why shouldn't someone watch this? For one it was from director Tim Hill who most recently brought us a “Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties” (Bill Murray). If you witnessed this outing you will understand the reference. Chuckles and smirks are shadowed by the throbbing headache that forms 15-minutes into the feature.
Why would you want to watch this? Are you eight years old? I'm baffled why anyone would enjoy a full length film featuring mouthy rodents who fail to utter a witty remark and force us to subdue an hour plus of slapstick nauseating forced “humor”. For kids and those who somehow believe they could endure an hour plus of three animated singing chipmunks. For me, it was painful.
