When a "cure" is found to treat mutants, basically normalize them, a war begins raging between the X-Men and the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood, led by Magneto (Ian McKellen), intend on destroying the cure, stomping on the nearly powerless human race. "X-Men: The Last Stand", one of the years most anticipated films, the third installment in the series, finally arrives hopeful to satisfy it's starving fans, having been impatient for over two years. Does it meet, exceed the expectations? In the past two installments we witnessed an improvement from "X-Men" to "X2". Is this such the case here? In comparison to it's predecessors, "X-Men: The Last Stand", while enjoyable and highly entertaining, is the weakest installment, an mediocre effort, overwhelmed with characters who are provided little screen time, nearly always guaranteeing inefficient character development, strongly the case here. It's challenging to appreciate a character and their mutant abilities when we are provided little exposure to them. The all-star cast does little, other than collect a paycheck, spit out a few one-liners, and manage some stunts (if even them). The most noteworthy performance is the always reliable Ian McKellen. Director Brett Ratner resume includes "Red Dragon", "Rush Hour 2" (Jackie Chan), "The Family Man" (Nicolas Cage), "Rush Hour" (Jackie Chan), and "Money Talks" (Chris Tucker). AGE-DEFYING DUO - SAVE
$13 The X-Men all-star cast returns: Hugh Jackman ("Van Helsing", "Swordfish") as Logan/Wolverine, Academy Award winner Halle Berry ("Monster's Ball") as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Academy Award nominee Ian McKellen ("Gods and Monsters", "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring") as Eric Lensherr/Magneto, Famke Janssen ("I Spy", "Don't Say a Word") as Dr. Jean Grey/Phoenix, Anna Paquin ("The Squid and the Whale", "25th Hour") as Marie/Rogue, Rebecca Romijn ("Godsend", "The Punisher") as Raven Darkholme/Mystique, James Marsden ("The Notebook", "The 24th Day") as Scott Summers/Cyclop, and Patrick Stewart ("Chicken Little", "Star Trek: Nemesis") as Professor Charles Xavier.
