“Why... so... serious?” - Joker. “The Dark Knight”, the second installment in the new Batman franchise, is the darkest, most menacing adult-oriented superhero film as of yet, featuring a memorable performance by the late Heath Ledger. Parents should know this latest Batman installment features a gothic atmosphere, a menacing sadistic villain (there is nothing humorous about this film's prankster), and a constant mood of hopelessness; in "Batman 2" it so seems that even Batman might not be able to save Gotham from the corruption and evil that plagues it's streets. Batman is portrayed as worn, human, very capable of bloodshed--he is no superhero, just a man who cares.
Lt. James Gordon: “What about escalation?” Batman: “Escalation?” Lt. James Gordon: “We start carrying semi-automatics, they buy automatics. We start wearing Kevlar, they buy armor-piercing rounds.” Batman: “And?” Lt. James Gordon: “And you're wearing a mask and jumping off rooftops. Now, take this guy: armed robbery, double homicide. Got a taste for theatrical, like you. Leaves a calling card.” Gordon hands Batman a card. Batman: “I'll look into it”. Batman jumps from the rooftop into the night...apparently preparing to battle his new nemesis...the Joker. This was the conclusion of the critically acclaimed “Batman Begins”, a brief introduction to what would come in “The Dark Knight”. Women: What Men Want to See in Your Profile
Expert Flirting Tips “Escalation” is the keyword to “The Dark Knight”. “Batman Begins” was the introduction to a hero: his bitterness, uncontrollable rage, his confrontation with revenge rather than justice. It was necessary for Bruce to learn there is a difference between revenge and justice. In “The Dark Knight” Bruce must learn to become the secret protector of Gotham, an invisible face, the unsung hero. He must also learn to comprehend a new kind of enemy, the criminal without logical, who kills merely for enjoyment. “Batman Begins” is as the title suggests, the introduction to the bat, his convictions, struggles, his identity. “The Dark Knight” is not so much about the bat as it is the destruction, the evil that plagues Gotham...it's the introduction to Joker. Bruce Wayne: “I knew the mob wouldn't go down without a fight. But this is different. They crossed the line.” Alfred Pennyworth: “You crossed the line first, sir. You hammered them. And in their desperation they turned to a man they didn't fully understand. Some men aren't looking for anything logical. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.” Batman has hammered the mob, become an obstacle for their criminal endeavors. And yes, in their desperation they accept a proposition from a dangerous man, beyond criminal, beyond lunatic...the menacing, blood thirsty, sadistic man who has no name just likes to be called...the Joker (Heath Ledger). So the question remains: is "Batman 2", "The Dark Knight" better than "Batman Begins"...escalation is the keyword. Not only is "The Dark Knight" a more polished film, with unforgettable villians, it is the finest superhero film as of yet.
